Humanities for Healthcare

Humanities for Healthcare is an educational project where translation students at the Institute for English Studies, University of Warsaw volunteer their time and skills to translate Cochrane plain language summaries into Polish.

The project is supervised by Dr. Piotr Szymczak, Associate Professor of Translation Studies and a member of the European Society for Translation Studies (EST).

Bartłomiej Matulewicz

Bartłomiej Matulewicz

Student at the Faculty of Medicine of the Jagiellonian University Medical College.
Translates English since 2012, mostly texts from the fields of medicine, pharmacy, medical technologies and environment protection. Interested in IT implementation in healthcare, use of new diagnostic and treatment technologies, as well as health promotion.
Within Cochrane he cooperates with the Polish Branch of Nordic Cochrane Centre, preparing translations of Plain Language Summaries.

Dawid Storman

Dawid Storman

Dawid Storman is a medical student at JU MC. Since 2015 he has been translating Plain Language Summaries, most of them in the field of psychiatry. He is a member of Student's Scientific Group of Systematic Reviews. His major area of scientific interest involves psychotherapy, hipnosis and research methodology. He is a member of editorial team of the "Overview of current research" section in the Medycyna Praktyczna journal, he is responsible for preparing structured summaries of the most important scientific research, evaluated for credibility according to the principles of EBM.
His activity within Cochrane involves cooperation with Cochrane Poland and the Cochrane Schizophrenia Group.

Mateusz Świerz

Mateusz Świerz

A 6th year student of the Faculty of Medicine at the Jagiellonian University Medical College. His main preoccupation within Cochrane Poland involves active participation in producing systematic reviews and translating Plain Language Summaries within the areas of general surgery, surgical treatment of cancers and gastroenterology. According to him, the most fundamental aspects of scientific work under the aegis of Cochrane Collaboration are: accuracy, topicality and relevance to the current clinical practice. The current president of the "Systematic Reviews" Students' Scientific Group.
Non-medical areas of interest: sailing, football and foreign languages.
