Cochrane Poland is hosted by Systematic reviews Unit-Polish Cochrane Branch at the Medical Faculty of the Jagiellonian University Medical College in Krakow, Poland.
Members of the Advisory Board are based at the Jagiellonian University and other Universities in Poland and abroad.

Gosia Bala

Małgorzata Bała, M.D., Ph.D.

Dr Małgorzata Bała is an associate professor, the head of the Systematic Reviews Unit-Polish Cochrane Branch and the head of the Department of Hygiene and Dietetics and acting head of Chair of Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine (Jagiellonian University Medical College, Cracow, Poland). Since 2005 she has been carrying out EBM teaching to students of the Jagiellonian University’s Faculty of Medicine and the School of Medicine in English, as well as to students of the EuroPubHealth course. Since 2000 Dr Małgorzata Bała has been involved in Cochrane activities. She is an author and co-author of several Cochrane reviews.
Her research activities are focused on EBM, particularly on the systematic reviews assessing effectiveness of therapeutic interventions, as well as the methodological aspects of clinical trials and treatment guidelines. Dr. Małgorzata Bała has also co-authored the chapters at the referential Polish textbook on EBM, entitled „Podstawy EBM, czyli medycyny opartej na danych naukowych dla lekarzy i studentów medycyny” (Editors: Piotr Gajewski, Roman Jaeschke, Jan Brożek; Cracow, 2008).
Within Cochrane Collaboration she is the Director of Cochrane Poland and has been cooperating with several Group (Tobacco Addiction Groups, Renal, Hepatobiliary, Stroke, Vascular and Skin Group).

Michał Pędziwiatr

Michał Pędziwiatr, M.D., Ph.D.

Michał Pędziwiatr, MD PhD is an Associate Professor and General Surgery Consultant in the 2nd Department of General Surgery, Jagiellonian University Medical College, Kraków. He has published more than 110 scientific papers and 140 conference abstracts. As an outstanding young scientist he has been awarded a Ministry of Science and Higher Education scholarship in 2016. His main fields of clinical interest cover minimally invasive oncologic surgery and modern perioperative care. In addition, he is strongly involved in practical implementation of evidence based medicine principles into everyday surgical practice. He is also the director of postgraduate studies "Publishing in medical sciences". He remains an active member of several medical societies and regularly serve as a reviewer for numerous impacted medical journals.

Wiktoria Lesniak

Wiktoria Leśniak, M.D., Ph.D.

Dr. Wiktoria Leśniak is a specialist in internal medicine, and an assistant at the Clinical Decision Unit within 2nd Department of Internal Medicine (Jagiellonian University Medical College, Cracow, Poland). Since 2005 she has been carrying out EBM teaching to students of the Jagiellonian University’s Faculty of Medicine and the School of Medicine in English, as well as to students of the EuroPubHealth faculty. She used to teach EBM to physicians, workers of the National Health Fund and the Ministry of Health. She has also co-authored several protocols of the Cochrane reviews.
The scope of her research activities involves the assessment of the cardiovascular risk, implementation of guidelines into clinical practice, the methodological aspects of clinical trials, and systematic reviews on the effectiveness of therapeutic interventions (particularly in cardiology and nephrology).
As a Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the “Medycyna Praktyczna” journal she is responsible for popularizing EBM, preparation of the structured summaries of clinical trials and treatment guidelines. She has also co-authored the chapters at the referential Polish textbook on EBM, entitled „Podstawy EBM, czyli medycyny opartej na danych naukowych dla lekarzy i studentów medycyny” (Editors: Piotr Gajewski, Roman Jaeschke, Jan Brożek; Cracow, 2008). She is a co-author of chapters concerning EBM and a Co-Editor of the ‘Cardiovascular Disorders’ chapter in the forthcoming “McMaster Textbook of Internal Medicine. Based on Interna Szczeklika” (Head Editors: from the McMaster University, Hamilton, Canada – Prof. Roman Jaeschke, M.D., M.Sc. & Prof. Paul O’Byrne, M.D., Ph.D.; from the Medycyna Praktyczna Press, Cracow, Poland – Piotr Gajewski, M.D., Ph.D.).
Her activity within Cochrane involves cooperation with the Cochrane Renal Group and Cochrane Poland.

Milosz Jankowski

Miłosz Jankowski, M.D., Ph.D.

Dr. Miłosz Jankowski is a specialist in internal medicine, anaesthesia and intensive care, and senior lecturer at 2nd Department of Internal Medicine, Jagiellonian University Medical College, Cracow, Poland. He is carrying out classes in internal medicine for Medical Faculty students and has experience in under-graduate teaching of Evidence Based Medicine. He is co-author of a number of chapters and Polish Co-Editor responsible for intensive care in the forthcoming “McMaster Textbook of Internal Medicine. Based on Interna Szczeklika” (Head Editors: from the McMaster University, Hamilton, Canada – Prof. Roman Jaeschke, M.D., M.Sc. & Prof. Paul O’Byrne, M.D., Ph.D.; from the Medycyna Praktyczna Press, Cracow, Poland – Piotr Gajewski, M.D., Ph.D.).
His major area of clinical and scientific interest involves intensive care, in particular respiratory failure, severe infections, shock and thromboembolic complications as well as quality improvement and application of the EBM paradigm in critical care.
He is a member of European Society of Intensive Care Medicine, International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis, Polish Society of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Therapy, Polish Society of Interdisciplinary Intensive Therapy, and Polish Society of Internal Medicine.
His activity within Cochrane involves cooperation with the Cochrane Airways Group and Cochrane Poland.

Magdalena Koperny

mgr Magdalena Koperny

Master of public health, head of the Department of Public Health and Health Promotion at Regional Sanitary-Epidemiological Station in Krakow, since 2012 lecturer at the Jagiellonian University Medical College Faculty of Health Sciences,specialist in epidemiology. In everyday work she is involved in the development and implementation of health prevention programs and health education. For several years she has also been involved in health technology assessment analyses, including systematic reviews, as well as other analyses of Polish health care system.
Within Cochrane she is involved in Cochrane Skin Group and she cooperates with Cochrane Poland.

 Joanna Zając

mgr Joanna F. Zając

MSc in biology, PhD student at Hygiene and Dietetics Department, Medical College, Krakow. Since 2009 a lecturer at Medical College and School of Medicine in English at Jagiellonian University. Since 2014 a coordinator of the project aiming at measurement and implementation of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons biomarkers amid in individuals exposed to those compounds on working posts. Since 2016 is involved in Cochrane systematic review.
Within Cochrane she cooperates with Cochrane Poland in dissemination of published reviews.

 Karolina Moćko

mgr Karolina Moćko

Master of Public Health. In the years 2012–2014 she collaborated with the Agency for Health Technology Assessment in Poland (AHTAPol) in the field of assessment of territorial self-government health program projects, according to the principles of evidence-based medicine (EBM).
In her everyday work, as the managing editor of the "Overview of current research" section in the Medycyna Praktyczna journal, she is responsible for drafting and editing structured summaries of the most important scientific research, evaluated for credibility according to the principles of EBM.
Her activity within Cochrane involves cooperation with Cochrane Poland.
